IMX214 diagonal 5.867mm (1/3.06 type) 13 megapixel CMOS active pixel type stacked image sensor

IMX214 is a diagonal 5.892mm (1/3.06) 13 megapixel CMOS active pixel type stacked image sensor with square pixel array. Adopting ExmorRS™ technology, column parallel A/D high-speed image acquisition converter circuit and high sensitivity and low noise image (compared with conventional CMOS image sensors) are realized through back-illuminated imaging pixel structure. Improvements have been made to the R, G and B pigment primary color mosaic filters. By introducing spatially varying exposure technology, high dynamic range still pictures and movies can be achieved. It is equipped with an electronic shutter with variable integration time. It operates on three power supply voltages: analog 2.7V, digital 1.0V and 1.8V for input/output interface, realizing low power consumption. IMX214 is designed for mobile or tablet devices*1

IMX214 camera image sensor FAQ

1. What is IMX214?

IMX214 is the second generation Exmor RS for Mobile series stacked CMOS image sensor developed by Sony. It is Sony's upgraded product based on IMX135, with approximately 13.13 million effective pixels and a size of 1/3.06 inches (diagonal approximately 5.867 mm).

2. What are the main features of IMX214?

Key features of the IMX214 include:

High dynamic range (HDR): IMX214 is the industry's first sensor to support full-film 13-megapixel high dynamic range (HDR) output at 30 frames per second, using partitioned high dynamic range exposure (SME-HDR) technology.

High performance: There have been significant improvements in low-light performance, power consumption and camera speed. The full HD 1080P shooting frame rate has been increased from 30 frames per second to 60 frames per second, and supports 4K video recording (30 frames per second). .

Process improvement: The distance between the on-chip microlens and the photosensitive diode is reduced, which improves the efficiency of collecting light. It also reduces the color crosstalk between pixels and improves the signal-to-noise ratio of the color signal.

Miniaturization: The stacked structure has been improved to make the CMOS package smaller, which helps smartphones to be thinner, lighter and smaller without sacrificing camera performance.

3. What faults are prone to occur in IMX214?

As a precision image sensor, IMX214 may fail for many reasons, including but not limited to:

Temperature is too high: Working for a long time will cause the temperature to rise, which may cause the "hot pixel" phenomenon, that is, the signal-to-noise ratio is reduced and the noise is intensified due to chip overheating.

Voltage issues: Analog voltage that is too low or unstable may cause the sensor to not work properly, such as requiring stronger light to sense an image, and color casts or streaks may occur.

Mechanical damage: Mechanical shock or vibration may cause damage to the internal structure.

Electromagnetic interference: Strong electromagnetic fields or electromagnetic wave interference may affect its normal operation.

Circuit problems: Short circuit, disconnection or incorrect connection of data lines may cause contour lines similar to water ripples or large-area color casts in the image.

4. How to solve the fault of IMX214?

To solve the fault of IMX214, you need to proceed according to the specific reasons:

Slight stains or impurities: You can try to use the tools in the sensor cleaning kit or professional camera cleaning spray to clean, but be careful to prevent dust from entering the camera and causing secondary contamination.

Professional repair: If cleaning by yourself cannot solve the problem, it is recommended to find a professional repairman or after-sales service center for diagnosis and repair.

Replace the sensor: If you determine that the sensor is damaged beyond repair, you may want to consider replacing the sensor. When replacing, you need to purchase a sensor that matches the original model.

5. What is the warranty service of IMX214?

If the camera is still under warranty, it is recommended to contact the manufacturer or after-sales service center directly, they may provide free repair or replacement services. Please refer to the manufacturer's official policy for specific warranty terms and service scope.
