IMX477 is a 1/2.3-inch type, using 1.55um single-pixel process technology to support 12.3 million total effective pixels for video shooting. This new CMOS image sensor also supports Sony's exclusive SME-HDR (Spatially Multiplexed Exposure HDR) and DOL-HDR (Digital Overlap HDR) advanced image processing technologies. In addition, the image sensor can support dual-sensor synchronous operation, and IMX477 also uses backlight imaging technology to achieve high-quality images in low illumination.
Like the previously launched imx377, IMX477 also supports 12.3 MP. In ADC10-bit mode, the video format can support 4K2K resolution (4056×3040) 60 frames per second high-frame video shooting. If SME-HDR mode is turned on, the camera can support 4K@60fps shooting, while DOL-HDR only supports 30fps real-time frame rate shooting. Because the IMX477 uses a small package size of 10.70mm (H) x 8.50mm (V) x 1.62mm (T), the image sensor is more suitable for the application of multi-image sensor camera products. Sony IMX477 can not only be used in high frame rate sports cameras, but also can be widely used in multi-lens 360-degree panoramic cameras (consumer cameras, security cameras, industrial cameras) and VR cameras and other products.
Both IMX477 and IMX377 can support 4K resolution 60 frames per second ultra-high-definition video shooting through the MIPI interface, and can reduce the development cycle and simplify the complexity of the overall design.
